This saree is a celebration of intricate archival floral wood blocks, with special attention to border designs. The pallu is the star of this piece, featuring rare vintage borders embedded with classic roses. A meandering floral scenery/landscape covers the saree, transporting you to a spring of the past. The breezy silk chanderi is soft on the skin, with a subtle luminosity.
For this saree, Indira and Satish selected more than 30 carved vintage wood blocks from our archive. They collaged 50-year old border designs with unique rose motifs in the print layout. This piece also features teak wood blocks collected in the 1970s from the bustling wood block bazaars of Farrukhabad.
Banu and Yashodara made the printing pigments by fermenting gum arabic resin over two days. They hand-mixed 15 unique shades, making sure each hue was a delicate balance against the pale pink dyed background. Satish took several days to print the saree, allowing each layer to dry between applications. Once done, the silk was slowly cooked in steam over several hours to fuse the colour into the fabric. Chandramma carefully unwrapped and hand washed it with a gentle soap. Over 60 hours were poured into creating this saree, with all the care it deserves.
Each saree is packaged in a handmade cover, with a floral sachet and a note signed by our artisan family. Gift this to yourself or someone you cherish!
