For this stunning wrap blouse, Indira and Satish designed a unique textile using an archival 8-part vintage paisley block design, hand-carved in teak wood more than 60 years ago. The prints were brought to life using the traditional 14-step technique of resin reactive printing for this distinctive effect.
Banu dyed the Bangalore silk base a dusty mauve and created crush-dye elements with a fresh azure blue. Yashodhara and Shama hand-mixed 8 pigments made with gum arabic resin fermented over two days. Once printed, each layer was dried, and finally the silk was rolled and steamed. After which, it was hand washed by Chandramma using a mild soap and then dried in sunlight.
Our local tailors sewed the garment together after developing the pattern with Indira and creatively placed the textiles to give this a contemporary touch with vintage elements. It took our team 80 man-hours to create this product.
